Update (22 Sep 2016) : The prices are in US dollars. I had to call to confirm this. Also this is targeted mostly to businesses. Individuals are welcomed but it out of the reach of the average household.
I came across a link to this ISP on facebook and my interest was piqued. Firstly I didn’t know satellite internet could be this cheap (relatively) – 600 Surinamese dollars (or about 500 TT) for 10 Mbps down and 2 Mbps up (see other packages on their website). The other things I’ve read about satellite internet is the high ping times and a clear line of sight required for optimal performance.
I see satellite internet as an option for remote areas and underserved areas. In Trinidad we have Greendot that uses radio waves and antenna to provide wireless broadband. We also have Blink 4G LTE broadband that covers a lot of Trinidad and Tobago. Trinidad is small and we should be able to provide universal 4G LTE coverage. My question is this, is satellite internet an option for us? Let me know what you think in the comments below.
