Came across this interactive map of submarine cables that connects the countries of the world. I am guessing a huge part of this network of cables connects us to the internet. According to wikipedia
A submarine communications cable is a cable laid on the sea bed between land-based stations to carry telecommunication signals across stretches of ocean.
According to the link, the map is created from research data and updated regularly. Zooming in on Trinidad and Tobago I see 5 cables landing in Trinidad and 1 connecting Trinidad to Tobago. I wonder what satellite links come to our country? Apart from subsea and satellite the only other type of link I can think of is radio links. I have labelled and listed the links below. I don’t know about you but I find this very fascinating. Please share with us your thoughts in the comments below.
|1||Southern Caribbean Fiber (Digicel)|
|2||ECLink (Columbus Networks)|
|3||Eastern Caribbean Fiber System (ECFS)|
|4||Suriname-Guyana Submarine Cable System (SG-SCS)|
|6||TT-1 (Columbus Networks, TSTT, Alliance Telecommunications)|
