Ask A Techie 20 Questions – Ronnie Rampersad – Tech Founder

How would you define a techie?

A techie (I dont like the term though) is someone who makes full use of and UNDERSTANDS technology. If you can’t create something, you just like cool tech toys.

Tell us about yourself (short bio)

Always moving, always learning, always doing.

How has tech improved your life?

Technology has allowed me to work from anywhere so I keep travelling. Technology has allowed for massive open online courses so I can keep learning and of course, technology has allowed me to create new products and services which can benefit everyone.

How can technology be used to improve Trinidad?

The major issues facing TT, Crime: crime detection can be done through utilising network theory and location with person history plotting – this tech exists | Corruption: follow the money.. paper trails and bank transactions – this tech exists | Benighted population: MOOC can help here – this tech exists | Immobilism outside the energy industry: technology sectors and promotion of innovative businesses – this is more tech policy than technology appropriation, and many more.

How did you get started in IT?

I showed a CEO how to fix his computer.

Do you think you can swim from Trinidad to Tobago? (explain)

Yes. I can swim and I’ll give my best for TT. I’ll more than likely place dead last in any swimming race… but I’ll still do it once given the opportunity.

How would you define an entrepreneur?

Given and understanding the risks and probability against them, the entrepreneur is the person who still sees opportunity and has that strange exaggerated sense of what they can achieve.

What is your favourite social media platform and why?

Facebook; it’s made to integrate with your life. So while I may not have time for any others social platforms, checking Facebook for news and articles doesn’t become a bother but another method for learning.

Tell us about any project(s) you are working on?

BreadKrumme is a virtual mobile treasure hunt app that gives users the coolest stuff from the most awesome places.

Describe the difference between Mac OS and Windows to someone who has never used a computer?

They’re both pretty similar in performance with Windows being more flexible and Mac being less hassle for maintenance.

What would be your ideal job title/position in tech?

Chief helper of things tech related.

The best advice you have received?

If at first you don’t succeed, try try try again.

Bill Gates and Elon Musk

Manchester United

What is the shortest complete sentence in the English language?

I am.

What tech event would you like to attend?

Slush, TechBeach, Wolves Summit, Web Summit.. there isn’t just one.

How would you invest a million dollars?

Research a problem, find a need that’s in demand, build a product, ensure it satisfies the need, make it better, build a company.

What future technology interests you?

AI, anything with transport, anything with weather modelling/ prediction, anything with hardware improvements.

Both. I lead where I can, I follow where I can.
