How would you define a techie?

Anyone who does not fear tech and sees it as a way of improving their’s and everyone else’s lives.

What made you fall in love with tech?

I love problem solving, I always wanted to know how things worked, I remember as a kid taking apart stuff to figure out how they worked.

Your thoughts on using tech to allow work from home?

Love it, for me all that is important is that the job gets done, it should not matter if I’m not physically there.

Describe a social problem that technology can solve?

Decision making, using simulations and data analytics to make better decisions.

Describe the state of ICT in Trinidad.

Overcrowded with too many individuals who have no place being in ICT, I’ve worked with a few of them, but on the flip side, I’ve also worked with brilliant, forward thinking individuals, but they are always in the minority. I hope in time the situation will sort it self out, the cream rising to the top and all that, but we are no way near there.

Tell us anything about yourself.

I’m a geek, graphic designer, amateur photographer, and introvert.

Your thoughts on the benefits of social media?

Social media has allowed for the development of the “crowd” — crowd sourcing, giving everyone a voice, this is always important,what they choose to do with that voice is another issue.

Your thoughts on ICT in schools?

I love the idea, not sure if I am a fan of the implementation.

Best movie you’ve seen and why?

The Princess Bride, saw it as a kid, and it stuck with me after all these years I’m still a huge fan.

Advice you would give to other techies?

Never be afraid you are going to break something, I’ve learnt more trying to fix mistakes or solve problems, than when things were working perfect.

Most prized gadget you own?

My 2008 Unibody Macbook, it has been a workhorse for these six years, with a couple of mods and fixes, it has not let me down yet.

Describe a tech pet peeve?

People who can’t format a word document consistently. I do freelance design work, and receive copy that may take hours to clean before placing in another application.

What do you wish there was an app for?

To teleport me to and from work.

What city in the world would you locate your tech startup?

San Francisco

Ideal internet speed (up and down) for you?

It can always be faster, the more speed I have the more I use, but it should be symmetrical, as I can’t live without my online backups.

Describe a futuristic technology you would like to see happen.

More efficient space travel, and the ability to explore the universe, a single point failure is never a good idea.

How can you use tech to improve the life of others?

To help people work smarter, faster so they can have more free time to live and enjoy their lives.

What keeps you going?

I’m a huge fan of science fiction, it amazes me to see how the things that were fiction in a book some years ago are reality today, can’t wait for the things to come.
