Ask A Techie 20 Questions – Sen Gupta – Solution Architect

Sen was my trainer when the company I was working for decided to use Sitecore to build their website. He is from India. Excellent trainer. Cool person.

How would you define a techie?

If you find somebody with his gadgets in toilet, providing consulting/tech support on calls. Eats quickly or just misses the food to stay at workstation. Will never find time to shop groceries with partner but is always available for Tech Call or conferences.

How did you get started in tech?

Planned for it with my Education at 10th Standard level, and constantly pursued it. Started with a small company delivering .Net services.

Describe a social problem that technology can solve?

Poverty! With correct implementation of technology, we can educate people to take right decisions and increase their earning capabilities.

Describe the state of ICT in India.

ICT is on 5 on a scale of 10 in India. With new Prime Minister Narendra Modi at helm, it may change dramatically, in next 5 years. A few samples, from last 6 months, online visa, online biometric real time attendance system for govt. employees, satellite based assessment of on-going project to curb corruption.

Tell us anything about yourself.

Microsoft platform specialist, hate MS products equally, learns new skills and technologies periodically, understands that one should not always buy the latest and high end gadgets as they may not provide true value for you money or you may not need all that mumbo jumbo at all.

You start a podcast, what do you call it?

I will call it “SenCast”. 😉

Your thoughts on women in ICT?

There has to be different labelling of gender? You got taste for it, you are welcome!

Best movie you’ve seen and why?

3-idiots, I like the idea of life in the movie, be yourself and feel free to think out of box

Advice you would give to other techies?

“Learn to learn”, that’s the only way you can survive here.

Most prized gadget you own?

Call me outdated but my IPad 3 Retina is something I am fond of. I think it’s a perfect device for experiencing the media. Hell lot of reading without any fatigue. I own Note 2, and a Windows 8.1 HD touch screen.

What question would you ask the Minister of Science and Technology?

When will we have internet connectivity available like TV broadcast, free to air.

Describe a good website?

Intuitive and serves one purpose.

What do you wish there was an app for?

An app to let techies learn on Social Networks, SocialLearn.

What city in the world would you locate your tech startup?

Himachal Pradesh, a place full of hill stations in India.

Ideal internet speed (up and down) for you?

Mostly 10 mbps is good.

Describe the smartphone of the future.

Learns from my usage patterns, aggregate apps and my todo based on priority and comes with a built in air 3d projection system.

How can you use tech to improve the life of others?

Tech has implementation in various fields but I think apart from medicals, the most important other field is transportation. We guys waste too much time in traffic and driving.
