I was invited to the launch of Samsung’s Curved UHD TV in Trinidad. The launch took place at the swanky Queen’s Hall. Below is my write-up about the technology and a nice photo story of the launch event. It is a rich and immersive viewing experience.
A smart TV or connected TV is one that can connect to the internet and has web capabilities. Ultra high definition includes 4K UHD (2160p) and 8K UHD (4320p). 4K gives you four times as much detail as 1080p Full HD (eight million pixels compared to two million pixels).
During the Emmys, Samsung marketing went door to door in New York and LA surprising persons with Curved UHD TVs and Emmy swag. I thought this was a clever marketing stunt. I envy the person that buys one of these. All we need now is a push for more UHD content. Here is a link to what Samsung says in their FAQ – UHD TV: Where Can I Get UHD(4K) Content?
I read where Samsung is partnering with content providers like Netflix and Amazon to get more UHD content. YouTube supports 4K and has some content. The Note 3, for example, allows you to shoot 4K videos. I read that there is no Blu-ray 4K standard and no standard on the connector needed to connect to 4K sources and other needed standards. 4K streaming requires more internet bandwidth and 4K content requires more storage capacity.
With UHD you will be on the leading edge of technology. It is the future. According to a press release from earlier this year it was stated that “Samsung is demonstrating its commitment to driving new technologies and accelerating their adoption by introducing a wide variety Samsung UHD TVs.” Also, “Samsung is blending its innovative Curved TV design with its UHD TV technology. These TVs deliver a bold theatrical experience and fundamentally change the way the world views TVs.” The curved screen gives you a wider field of view and panoramic effect that draws you in. Samsung’s PurColor, Auto Dept Enhancer and Upscaling technologies bring the images to life.
